In our penultimate episode, we travel inland to the Kouebokkeveld, close to the Cederberg Mountains, go for a swim and in the afternoon Justin and friends make a warm mushroom and smashed baby potato salad with ostrich fillet rolled in crushed peppercorns.
"The shortest route from De Hoop Nature reserve to Kunje Guest Farm, was long, very long. By the time we got there, we were totally and utterly exhausted. But you know, what kept us going, was the fact that a whole whack of our friends were coming up from Cape Town to join us for our second last episode. And it was kind of like getting letters from home."
"We’re taking everyone up to some swimming holes down the other side, and Richard’s our guide here. He says it’s really beautiful up here..."
Justin: "Richard! How far is this fabled pool of yours?"
Richard: "Just another 40 minutes of gentle strolling."
"I’d like to come spend a couple of days here, hey? Bring a couple of honey’s... Isn’t that what we’ve done?... (splash) Ah, ah, ah!… I can hardly breathe man!"
Back from our adventurous stroll and swim, everyone is bit hungrier than they thought.
"I’m not cooking today, the ladies are. I just have, lots of... I mean what better eye candy could you have then this? I get to give them everything, tell them what to do, and it all happens miraculously today."
Gareth: "There’s a smashed potato."
Evan: "Looks like he’s hit the windscreen at 120kms an hour..." (laughter).
"You gently crush those peppercorns. Then you take this whole crushed peppercorn mixture and you put it onto the fillet and you rub it in..."
Evan: "Isn’t it, horrible feeling that stuff?"
Cindy: "It’s quite satisfying..."
Justin: "Crushing all those little balls?" (laughter).
Cindy: "I didn’t say that. Naughty Justin, just naughty."
And after a long leisurely lunch, Fran serves us Malva Pudding and a fight ensues
"I love Malva pudding."
Cindy: "Especially when it’s soaked in Van Der Hum rum... Feel the flowers (laughter)... with 20 of my favourite people."
S"o this is the end of this episode. We’re on our way down to Cape Town and yes, it’s been incredible and the more I think about it, the more I have to think about. Epiphanies, life changing decisions... So enjoy the last bit of the ride... I’m so tempted to start a food fight..."
The following morning we head back home via the West Coast Nature Reserve.
