Cooked: The?Cooking Adventure Show

Profile photo
Justin Bonello:?Presenter / Co-Director

I cannot explain the gratitude I have for my friends and family, nor can I put into words the sheer pleasure of changing the perception that life is about 49 weeks of work and 3 weeks of holiday. If all that ?Cooked? does is inspire people to follow through with their dreams ? I?ll be ecstatic.

Profile photoDale Rodkin:?Co-Director / DOP

Dale started making documentaries when he was conscripted into the South African Air Force when he was 19 years old. He spent a year writing, editing and shooting and won 2 Gold Awards for best documentary and best director. He then joined the film industry as a loader where he spent just over a year working on commercials and features. In 1993 Dale packed his bags and went on a 3-year world travel, and this he says is where he developed an eye for photography. He returned to Cape Town and to the film industry in 1996 and spent the next 5 years working the summer seasons as a camera assistant and the winters as a travel photographer. In 2001 he took an opportunity to work with a local steadicam operator where he became hooked. It was here that his passion for beautiful and seamless camera moves was realised. He has been working as a steadicam operator since 2002 and has never looked back. Recently Dale completed a 13 part travel/cooking show for the BBC.

What can I say... It's been a long, long road with lots of laughter and tears... What is special, are all the wonderful people who were involved, travelled with us and who we met along the way. They all gave so freely of their time, energy and friendship. Without their involvement, this show would not have been possible. To each & every sponsor... for your support and generosity. All I can say, is... Thank you, thank you, thank you...

Danny van der Merwe:?Cameraman

My name is Danny van der Merwe. I am a Cape Town based freelance cameraman. The experience of shooting on Cooked was unlike anything I've ever done before. It felt very free, no limits to self expression which in itself is hard work. Everything was moving, the cameras, the subjects, our lighting fixtures; it was wild fun.

Evan Haussmann:?Stills Photographer

Travel Photographer, mostly. I have a latent interest in communication, studied and wrote advertising for six or seven years before it spat me back into the real world. Since, I?ve trained by working extensively with local and international fashion, stock, catalogue and advertising photographers from whom I?ve learned to be more experimental in my work. I enjoy shooting commercial stuff, though reality has it?s own charms, beauty and suprises.

I studied editing for three years completing my bachelor?s degree in motion picture medium. Freelance edited for a while. Joined GIF Post Production, with Gideon Furst and then later on HD Hub who specialise in the high definition format. Edited various music videos, commercials and documentaries. In August last year I joined the Cooked crew, grafting the 13 episodes in 3 hectic months ( working hard, playing hard and lots of junk food) as the post supervisor and as well as editing four of the episodes. I compose music in my free time and am currently working at commercials post production company, Priest. Hope you enjoy the series!

My dreams and ambitions are to make films about my people. I immigrated from DRC to South Africa in 2001 where Justin introduced me to the film industry. I am now assisting the camera team and I hope to be a cameraman one day.

Profile photo Bo Van der Zanden: Underwater Photography

Who, me? I?m just Bo, but just after bedtime I?m Ob, and any time in between I?m Boob. My favorite in-between sleeping things to do are: learning to fly, chasing cardboard gerbils and painting things a lighter shade of purple. Have you ever noticed that epileptic Llamas don?t chew their custard? I don?t live in a modest two story snails shell encrusted with Earwig boots... and I?m not going to tell you that its parked in Hout Bay harbor disguised as a boat because some nasty Pianists want it. Commenting on Cooked... it came along, happened, left me rather dizzy, and hasn?t quite left me.

I was asked the other day what working on the ?Cooked? series did for me... well, a lot of mud up the nose (eeew) and some serious adrenaline rushes! Hardy har. But besides that... (this is going to sound really clich?, so prepare yourselves)... I?ve made friendships that are there to last, I?ve met people that have inspired me and places that have influenced me. Every young girl should go on a road trip ? and some mothers might agree that some people shouldn?t take my advice... I believe that a person is made up of all those they meet in their lifetime... I?m not the same person I was before I became ?cooked?... well, apparently I was slightly ?fried? before, that?s why I went along... Anyhoo, anyway, anyhow. Hope you all enjoy the show... I know I did, and I have three words for you all... burp, woof, woof. Keep it real with a little peace, love and respect. P.S: My name is Cass ...... Adious!

As far as memories from the trip go... where do I start!!! Chilli brandy coffee after a dive. Oysters for breakfast on the beach in the Transkei. Catching two cracker on film with my mate. Jumping through fires. Being thrown off a bridge on my birthday. Dale singing along to Shania Twain!! Chocolate vodka. Awesome parties. Remembering how to drink tequila. Forgetting how much tequila I drank! Coincidences - meeting strangers and finding a connection from the past. I think what will stick with me the most is the new friends I have made. The fact that this adventure gave me the opportunity to meet people who's paths I would never have crossed in normal life, who I can now honestly call friends.
